    RIP: LookingSkyward

I've just learned via Facebook that member LookingSkyward has passed away but I have no further details. I'm stunned. We had become friends on Facebook and we were planning to meet in October when my wife and I visit Leavenworth. Fair skies and calm seas, friend.

I'd been hoping to plan a meet-up with them this summer myself.

I said as much in my reply to your Facebook comment. I was really looking forward to it.

I'm in shock. Dave was a lovely person. I met him multiple times and he sent me nice cards when I was laid up after my fall. Oh my. Oh my.

My wife just checked his wife's Facebook. He's "on eternal patrol". Always the submariner.

That's how I got the news. The photo that went along with it is touching.

    Dang. And other such words.

I don't even know what to say. Just stunned.

Likewise, and if you hadn't posted, I was going to.

    What?!

He was such a nice guy. Often sent a short, polite, upbeat PM - enjoyed a post of mine, glad to see me posting again after a brief hiatus.

My sincere sympathies to his family and friends.

I'm very, very sorry to hear this, Mrs Lookingskyward.

    I'm really saddened by this.

I was fortunate to meet Dave and his family last September. He showed me around their acreage, especially keen to explain the hydroponic gardening system he'd set up, and pointing out numerous other interesting things, while assuring me that "Carla could tell you more about that..."

I'm having difficulty believing he's gone.

I never met him, never really interacted with him beyond the superficial. So why am I so saddened? I guess some folks touch lives without knowing or trying.

This is very sad. My condolences to his family.

So sorry to hear about LookingSkywards passing, felt that something was wrong concerning his absence, may he rest in peace. My sincere condolences to Mrs LookingSkyward who he had recently introduced to the gardening thread as a master gardener.

I woke up this morning vaguely hoping it was just a bad dream. So, so sorry, Carla. A great guy.

He was a kind, thoughtful, generous man with an easy wit. What's not to be sad about? We are all a little lessened by this loss.

I wasn't going to come back until I had a story written up, but I heard about this from a friend who reads the forum daily but isn't a member.

    How could this be!?

My brother sends his condolences as Skyward was a fellow sailor.

Geo, Capt Swoop, other sailors, at 4 PM local, (-8 Zulu) I'm going to start a series of toasts for Skyward's memory. Busting open the thirty year, old aged in whisky barrels rum. (AKA the "good stuff").

    Join me if you wish.

And may God bless and be with Skyward's wife and children at this time of loss.

I've started to post that five or six times now, but keep thinking it doesn't work for a submariner. I guess it does at that.
