    Parfait

What are the chances of getting such a telescope in our lifetimes? 100 meter scope for $150,000,000 sounds like something that could be crowdfunded.

depends if you can get the politicians to fork over the cash.
Just a quick thought I had a better solution would billions of nanomirrors that you could control, they would be light and could take any shape you needed.

    That's why I suggested crowdfunding.
Surely out of a world population of over seven billion you can find fifteen million people willing to donate an average of ten bucks a piece for a hundred meter scope, even if all the politicians are know-nothings who won't devote 0.004% of the budget to make America first in telescopes.
Or one of the Earth's 1,810 billionaires to donate the money to have the scope named after him/her.

Once and a while you do get a wealthy donor but most who have that kind of wealth are trying to make more or to keep it. Politicians at the moment have to balance a lot of needs so saying there are know nothings is a bit extreme.

It would be an interesting design, but to get the full benefit of a scope of that size you kind of need it to be a full surface to gather every photon possible.
