    LED signs

The Lutheran Church here just put up an LED sign. The Baptist Church did so a few years ago.
There is also a school, a restaurant and a library within a few blocks of my condo.
I am trying to get my priest to get one, but he has other priorities right now.
Are there many where you live? Are any of them new?

Mostly only LED billboards, with badly-designed content. Many designers seem to latch onto the ability to project wonderful detail, forgetting that it's mostly lost when driving by at 45 mph.

I have not seen smaller versions around here...

ETA: Also, when you say LED sign, do you mean a basic display like this or something more like a TV?

Basic is good enough, but the TV style is great too.

There were a bunch of these all at once in an area where I used to live -- some salesman must have just come through there.

A small bank had one with the worst color combinations i'd ever seen, not just tasteless, but unreadable. I couldn't believe that someone chose those. Rather, there must have been some one-bit error in the color codes.

With that qualifier, then yes, I have seen a fair number of signs in our community. At first I thought you were talking about the higher-res signage, hence my follow-up question.

Best LED billboard I've seen doesn't even take advantage of the ability to change or use fancy graphics: 1-404-CUT-TREE for a tree removal service. No other text or graphics - just large characters in yellow on a green background.

They seem to be fairly common at professional soccer stadiums, like BBVA Compass here in Houston. There's a fence along the sideline (leaving space between the fence and the stands) and that fence has fairly elaborate and animated signage.

are there any animated ones on highways? I think that would be a bad idea.
    Formerly Frog march.

Newscaster: ... But I've just had a report that a representative of Disaster Area met with the environmentalists this morning and had them all shot, so now nothing stands in the way of the concert going ahead this afternoon on this beautiful sunny day.

There was one on I-5 near Tacoma, WA, that got a lot of bad publicity for the potential of distracted driving. Amusingly, it occasionally had Windows error messages. I'm not sure it's still there. Nearby these days are some that are electronic but just rotate between several static images.
Billboards along state roads are actually illegal here, but they get away with it in this location because it's an Indian Reservation.

ETA: And now that I think about it, there are a couple of animated ones nearby attached to tribal casinos.

I am afraid that over the years I have developed an abhorence of almost all advertising. I find LED signs particulary repugnan.
