    The image is 90X90.
How can I cut it down?

If you don't have any sort of image processing software on your computer, type "resize images online" into your favourite search engine. You'll find many sites that do a free resize using a drag-and-drop interface.

I might be wrong but this forum's sotware might reduce a 90 by 90 jpg to 80 by 80....it's just much larger jpgs that it rejects.

It could give a considerably better result to trim 10 pixels off the
edges than to resize it. That is trivial in Windows Paint.

    Windows Paint?
I have a Mac, how do I do it on that?
I'd still like to do that to remove the text.

Sheesh, the Macintosh was (probably still is) for many people the
    epitome of graphics machines.

    I've never used one.

Please let us know whether this works for you:

    https://www.digitaltrends.com/comput...den-paint-app/

It says near the bottom of the article where to find the
Rectangular Selection tool for cropping images to size.

You could attach the original image to a post; someone here (I'd be happy to) could do the edit for you and attach the result to another post ...

Did you read the info at the link in my post #8 above?

I decided to go with the text on the bottom after all.
There are other forums I would like to use this on, that need smaller avatars, so I could use some help with that.

This is an example of a classic problem of graphics, digital or
analog. Five pounds of detail cannot be crammed into a one-
    pound bag.

My image is 6.0 kib. But when I try to load it, the forum says it must be less than 6.0 kib. I guess just shaving the lower edge or something? Or maybe the sides?

It's possible that removing one or more columns of solid color
pixels from either the left or right edges or both will leave the
size of the image unchanged, because the resulting narrower
columns will just just be encoded by different numbers in the
compressed image file. The same number of numbers would
still be in the file. Taking a row off the top or bottom should
reduce the number of numbers used, and thus the filesize.

But I won't be surprised if you're mistaken about the 6 kib limit.
