    Post Gardening for the Moon

    When astronauts return to the Moon and visit Mars in the coming decades, they'll want to bring as little as possible from Earth. That means living off the land wherever possible. Wouldn't it be great if they could grow their own food? Researchers from Texas A&M University have grown lettuce in special cylinders that provide the plants everything they need to grow - but in a very low pressure environment.

    Very interesting, Fraser. The development of spacial food production will be essential in terraforming Mars. I hope they are using a touch of ammonia in the atmosphere, enhanced levels of carbon dioxide, a little gibberellic acid, and last but not least..Messenger....a harpin protein that stimulates all plants to produce earlier,heavier yields, with less fertilizer, and less fungicides, and pesticides. Great stuff, as you can check with the customers at hundreds of garden centers...and no, I don't own stock, or get a kickback. Cheers. Pete.

    Politicians

    One thing for sure the last thing that the politicians will support is a long term commitement to space so its not surprizing how come these sort of developments are done outside the main program.
