A mild windy day here with temps around 70F......but now the weather channel says that Virginia is under the heavy snow gun this weekend according to their 2 most reliable forecasting scenarios (Euro & US). 4 days ahead of time, hope it changes.

    MAF Tornado strike aftermath
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2017_New_Orleans_tornado
    https://www.nasaspaceflight.com/2017...critical-path/

Incredibly, the tornado cut right through essential areas of SLS assembly and production operations at MAF. Mr. Doering explained that the decades-old External Tank Ground Vibration Test Article (ET-GVTA) was still at the facility when the tornado hit. “The hydrogen tank flew directly towards the building, towards 103. The oxygen tank that was sitting next to it flew in exactly the opposite direction out towards the levee,”It rolled over a car, completely flattened it, (and) hit the utility tray that runs along the back of 103.

An inch or two of cold rain is on the way with below average temps expected the rest of the week, low=low 20's, hi=low 40's. We do need a good rain now as brush fires have been local, but am thankful for the preceding drying out spell. The snow line of this eminent nor'easter will be just a few miles NW of us, yeah! Garden needs the watering too.

I don't understand... most of New York is closed tomorrow, due to snow. Buffalo has a forecast of 8-12 inches over 2 days. Other places on the east coast are going to get positively pounded with snow.

We get 7 feet and people have to tell us to stop driving to the mall. For the life of me, I can't figure why Buffalo is closing down like Snomageddon is coming. Other people are going to get very bad weather, but not here.

Ah....60 F ! We used to dream about 60. It would be like a paradise to us. Got 34 , high for the day. Most anything that didn't get
attended to yesterday, would need an axe to remove today.
Skies full of grey, wind at 6 kts. No more precip .

It's 18F and sunny at the Anchorage airport right now. We've had a nice long break from the snow with a lot of clear blue sky. That means colder temps and we've had stiff winds the last 2-3 days.

Every once in a while, I like to poke around the FAA's Aviation Weather Cameras website, especially when we're having such clear skies. Unfortunately, I can't link directly to specific cameras but here's a recent feed from the southwest camera at McKinley North station showing the south peak of Denali on the right at a distance of 31.5 miles (50.7 km):

You could also get a glimpse of my neighborhood at the Birchwood station's southeast camera:

My place is at the foot of the small mountain on the left. Nothing too exciting really but this morning's "loop" showing an animation of several hours' worth of images was pretty cool because it captured sunrise.

For easier reference, click this thumbnail to see it highlighted (yellow dot) on the map:
