Charlie,

Never say that! The old astronomy trick is to look up at the rainy, overcast sky and say, "Well, I think I'll go inside and start that major woodworking project I've been putting off since last year. Yup, that sucker will keep me inside for the next week of evenings..."

Then actually start the project but just happen to go out a couple hours after it's dark, and see what you've got... :D

Please note key words 'solar filters'...if I wait until after dark, I still ain't got diddley-boo...

This ploy can be completely spoiled by your wife cleaning the windows... ;-)

Just trying to get you clear skies, pal.

Sometimes they last until dawn... 8)

I may have to get the scope and filter out for this one. I got 536 and 537, a couple of months ago. Until I save up and get a Hydrogen Alpha solar filter, sunspots are really the only interesting thing to see. 8)

That would make for a rather foul kind of filter. Why would you be using those?

Some of you people belong in Callahan's Bar.

That's meant as a compliment.

I forgot to ask. Did he find them on the web?

Did who find what on the web? Me? The filters?

The material came from an old filter they found while cleaning up at the club dark sky site. It was homemade, and the prez was about to pitch it...I snagged it, and salvaged it. A 12" circle means lots of stuff to make little filters out of...someday I hope to get a webcam and put some pix of them here.

Easy homemade solar filters -- this is how I made mine. (http://www.astro-physics.com/index.htm?products/accessories/solar_acc/astrosolar)

Mike, if you ever find where Callahan's is, let me know...I'll be down at Lady Sally's House, otherwise...
