My new (to me) computer is set up in my livingroom, which is seriously annoying when it comes to writing long posts. I can't move it just yet as it's all linked up in our gaming LAN.

I have at least four threads I'd like to start but I don't dare because the openings will take longer than I usually get at a sitting.

In the last five days at least four really good new threads were killed by knocks on the door by people looking for something to do. (Sigh) People I can't just shoo off like button salesmen. Plus at least twice as many long replies to existing threads. (Two of which the loss of was probably a good thing, as I just cleared all my weinie points. :shifty:)

Combine this with a lack of available gamers for months now and I have run out of outlets for story telling. This is different than writer's block. This is writer's blockage. A word tinker's dam.

Well, you could try composing your posts in a word processor. That would allow you to save them in the event of interruptions, and copy-paste when they're finished.

If it were that simple...

I'm almost afraid to ask, but it's gotta be a good story--how were they killed by knocks at the door?

Thread ninjas erase the posts while he is at the door :)

Please tell me you aren't actually missing the Coleridge reference (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Person_from_Porlock).

Oooooh. I thought he meant this Xanadu (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0081777/).

Yours makes more sense.

Weirdly enough, the first time I ran into Porlock was when I read Stranger In A Strange Land, nearly fifty years ago. I still bet it's a story and a half. :)

I was told an interesting statistic the other day. It's takes an average of 15 minutes to get fully focused on a task. The reason that it's interesting (to me) is that on average people in the business sector get interrupted in their tasks once every 10 minutes. In other words there is a good chance you can never get really focused on a the task at hand.

Sounds about right.
It's why the cubical should be considered one of the absolutely worst ways of organizing your workforce.
