The inflatable spacecraft thread gave me this question.Would a helium balloon burn up on re-entry to earths atmosphere? Or would it be like landing on a cushion of air? Does it depend on the shape, material or size of the balloon? And how far would it penetrate earths atmosphere?

How about paper airplanes?
Theres a thread about those reentering along with a proposed experiment: Paper airplane reentry (http://www.bautforum.com/archive/index.php/t-69247.html)

Just goes to show no matter how original you think an idea is, it has a 99.99 percent chance of already been discussed on B.A.U.T.

Note- search baut first.
