The NASA centre has started a new research program , a new system of sensors, the signal processing and the pattern recognition, the team has developed a computer program that comes close to reading thoughts not yet spoken, by analyzing nerve commands to the throat. It says the breakthrough holds promise for astronauts and the handicapped. Jorgensen's team found that sensors under the chin and one each side of the Adam's apple pick up the brain's commands to the speech organs, allowing the subauditory, or "silent speech" to be captured.

So humans might be able to speak to eachother without making noise? They can pass information to each without opening their mouths or using their ears. The main information that is analyzed is silent, or subauditory, speech, such as when a person silently reads , or thinks to him/herself.
There are Biological signals that arise when reading or speaking to oneself with or without actual lip or facial movement. This might become the technology of the future?

:) it's clear the machine isn't telepathy but its a good and useful invention all the same!

We have flown in, at great expense, a Gordon Lightfoot impersonator, just for this bit. Take it away!

If you could read my mind, Love,
You would probably slap my face ...

Yeah, it's called a Sub-Vocal, Science Fiction has had 'em for Years.

If you want to read a Good Rendition of what it would be like, try Earth by David Brin.

One also makes an appearance, in his Book Infinity's Shore.

Bah! They're obviously blatantly sexist, because as we all know, women don't have Adam's apples. :P
