Just came across this in the Washington Post (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/06/21/AR2010062104114.html?g=0), originally fron New Scientist as of yesterday. WP is generally better than average, so I wanted to throw it out here.

But for the past two years, the sunspots have mostly been missing. Their absence, the most prolonged in nearly 100 years, has taken even seasoned sun watchers by surprise. "This is solar behavior we haven't seen in living memory," says David Hathaway, a physicist at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala.

Any update as to whether the relative absense is fleeting, as was mentioned last year hear on BAUT, or whether it's more long-lived as yesterday's article seems to suggest?

There's a long thread in the Astronomy section, I think called Solar Cycle 24, which has a lot of information. Going through that could probably give you some ideas.
