I was out last night at around 1:00 A.M. and noticed a very bright star/planet pretty high up in the eastern sky. It seemed almost as bright as Venus. I live in a suburb of Dallas so it was the only major point in the sky at that time. I was thinking this may be Saturn but I am not sure. Anybody know?

Almost certainly the planet Jupiter which is well above the eastern horizon at that time. Go to Heavens-Above (http://www.heavens-above.com)and bring up the Whole Sky page, and then plug in the time. You may need to add your location too.

As schlaugh says, it was no doubt Jupiter. Check out my thread in this forum regarding Jupiterís current apparition; it contains a link to my related graphics: http://www.bautforum.com/showthread.php/106172-Jupiter-s-2010-Apparition
