I don't think so. They are a long way from there.
Maybe dust devil sites that "bounce"?

Oh I see now that they are close to where the parachute hit. These are bounce marks from that, not the lander.

It is quite possible that it is bounce marks from the airbags. The latest Opportunity press image as of posting(from 30.03.2004) is of the rock that Opportunity bounced on during landing, so I don't think opportunity is not to far away from the "bounce path"... They are calling the rock simply "Bounce" by the way.

I don't think they are bounce marks per se, since I would expect a greater distance between such marks

It's just one bounce mark, isn't it? The circles are just from the individual airbags.

Check the panoramas (http://marsrovers.jpl.nasa.gov/gallery/panoramas/opportunity/), which put the image into context. I'd vote that they're airbag marks, since there appears to be something of a trail of them leading from "Bounce" rock into the crater.

I'm not referring to John's original post in this thread, but it got me thinking about the bunny, the heat shield, etc.

Isn't it interesting that we send these robots all the way to Mars and when we get there we are so fascinated by our own garbage that we start to see all sorts of alien stuff in it?

It's like how we're fascinated with seeing ourselves on a tv screen (like as in home movies) when the vid shots were taken on holidays, somewhere far from where you live. You don't even notice the grand canyon in the background. #-o

Same marks, different angle (http://marsrovers.nasa.gov/gallery/all/1/n/066/1N134053439EFF08AQP1963L0M1.HTML) - you can see a trail of bounce marks leading into Eagle Crater.
