I haven't tried any of the titles before but Kaplan (which provides test prep services as well as college-level instruction) is giving away 130 e-books, I suspect as teasers or loss-leaders for their content and services.

Offer ends Monday January 17.

I don't have any of the supported readers and so can't tell you about the book quality but I expect it ranges from OK to pretty good.

Examples include:

Kaplan 101 Algebra Practice Questions
Math for Moms and Dads
Sharp Grammar
Get Into Graduate School
Kaplan Portable GMAT
Memorable Thoughts of Socrates

Full list here. (http://www.freekaplanebooks.com/free-kaplan-ebooks/)

(For the record, I have no dog, cat, sheep, rabbit, deer, buffalo, aardvark or any other animal in this hunt.)

Mods, feel free to move and/or delete.

Content is for Kindle, Apple devices, Nook and Sony.

And I'm not looking to debate the pros and cons of for-profit colleges.

I'll pass that along to my mother-in-law, who is now an avid Kindle user (since Christmas, 2009)

I just found an app for my BlackBerry that has 1000s of free titles (mostly fan-fiction, vanity-press, public domain classics, and a handful of non-fiction). The app is called, "WattPad."

I downloaded the full text of The Picture of Dorian Gray just to see if it would work.

I like hard-copies.

And libraries.
