View Full Version : Men in Black

I've been away for a long time, but had to share this. I spent the late evening hopping between laughter and rage as I watched Ancient Aliens, Area 51, and finally a program on Men in Black, thoughout which the outrageous reasoning employed to validate the idea should have been enough by itself to discredit the whole UFO phenomenon (though, for a refreshing change, a reasoned balance was offered in this one, albeit somewhat halfheartedly). But the kicker (I'm only typing this between rolls on the floor) came at the end when one of the pro-men-in-blackers (the guy in the dark glasses, btw; must have been an alien) said "You're missing the bigger picture. The government has gotten so deep into black programs and so secretive that even the men in black don't know they are men in black any more." Yea verily, brother....

If they're so good at covering things up, why can't they stop television programs, books etc. that talk about them from being disseminated?

It's amazing how competent government agencies are in conspiracy theories, would that they were that on the ball in the real world.

Because these serve as an useful cover-up themselves?

In Lem's His Master's Voice
---- SPOILER ----
when an extraterrestrial signal is discovered, the U.S. govt starts a secret project to decode it. To cover up existence of the project and hush initial news reports about the discovery, their propaganda specialist manufacture and disseminate to the media absurd UFO stories, containing some elements of truth. The whole thing appears to be completely bunk. IIRC, the original discoverer suffers nervous breakdown and commits suicide. The government scientists can now work in peace...
---- END SPOILER ----

That was one of the real beauties in this particular revelation of conspiracy. I think it was Frank Edwards they used as an example to show that the men in black kill. He just up and keeled over one evening. He was getting too close to the "truth" so the men in black did him in. Never mind that his book had already been published and the cat was out of the bag. The cause of death: "apparent" heart attack--it being "apparent" a clear sign that it was something else. I love these guys. On the other hand, if you wanted to debunk an idea pretty thoroughly among those who can actually think, the obvious way to do it is to hire a couple of idiots like this to promote it.....oops, here comes another conspiracy theory.

So when my dad died of an apparent heart attack, is that proof he got too close to the truth while working as a recruiting sergeant for the Air Force? Or in the office job he did after he retired? (I realized not that long ago that I don't actually know what he did for a living, and my older sister doesn't, either.) Or maybe, just maybe, do people just sometimes die of heart attacks?

That was the tenor of the whole thing. A bunch of aging, overweight UFO-logists died. That was iron-clad proof that the men in black did it. If your Dad died of an apparent heart attack, he must therefore have been a UFO-logist. That was the good reasoning. It got worse.

You have got a point there, thorkil2... My dad died of heart problems as well. He was a math teacher, and he had absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with anything aliens, government, air or space related. Nothing at all. Very good cover, obviously! Only real MiB could make such a perfect cover, therefor they must be real.

Come to think of it... I have absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with anything aliens, government, air or space related at the moment... *glances over shoulder* :shhh:

As the fellow with the permanently fixed sunglasses noted at the very end, it's so secret any more that even the men in black don't know they are men in black (in fact, one of them had committed the ultimate disguise of driving a white truck). Beware your mirror.

To quote the OP "You're missing the bigger picture."
He must have been a MIB because he didn't even know he was a MIB.

My father died of heart failure. He had spent three years working for military intelligence. I wonder what secrets he got to close to?

Of course the fact he was 82 and had a a history of cadiovascular disease and it had been fifty years since he had left the military are all irrelevant....

Once MiB, always MiB.

It's kinda like being Mafioso, or a Marine... or an Aggie.

He must have been in deep cover, he never wore a black suit.

we all know the truth about the men in back- J and K go around with their flashy thing and make up absurdly elaborate stories to cover up when an alien does something big in public..
