Those were the blobs that floated in gas giants, eh? This is a broad topic.

"Make me a life detector. Don't make it specialize in carbon-bassed life forms, but don't exclude carbon-bassed life forms either. I want silicon-bassed, arsnic-bassed, carbon-bassed, did I say carbon already? Oh, and germainium-bassed... all on one chip."
