View Full Version : The Punchline Preceded the Joke by 20 Years

You know how George Lucas, when doing the "Special Editions" of the "Star Wars" trilogy in the late 90s, changed the cantina scene so Greedo shot at Han first?

Well, I came across something funny while re-reading the book "Han Solo at Stars' End," by Brian Daley, originally published in 1979.

At one point, another character (named Rekkon) admonishes Han to put his quickly-drawn blaster away, suggesting that it would be wiser "to find out what was happening before preparing to shoot."

Han's response: "I happen to like to shoot first, Rekkon. As opposed to shooting second."

Perhaps that character's name should have been Retcon...

Heinlein's Lazarus Long character wrote, "Get a shot off fast. This upsets him long enough to let you make your second shot perfect."

That sounds like something Solo would agree with.
