Early this morning (June 7, 2011) an amazingly massive and spectacular event took place on the Sun; a huge prominence eruption, marked by a solar flare and release of energetic particles. Daniel Pendick from the Geeked on Goddard blog described it as a “fountain of plasma that blasts out of the solar surface, spreads outward, [...]

I seem to be banned from posting messages on Universe Today, so here goes my question here.

The June 7 post "Monster Prominence Erupts from Sun (http://www.universetoday.com/86356/monster-prominence-erupts-from-sun/)" looks similar to an 11Mb SpaceWeather movie (http://spaceweather.com/swpod2011/07jun11/bestcrop.mov) (.mov). A friend has noticed that, at less than a second into the movie, in the bottom right-hand corner, shows an unusual "double ladder formation". I've cropped a still (below)

Is this a real phenomenon, or just an image artifact? If it is real, what is it?

SDO Project Scientist, W. Dean Pesnell, reports that

"The ladder pattern is the diffraction pattern of the spider assembly holding the secondary mirror in the telescope. It is seen whenever an extremely bright spot appears on the Sun."
I've attached some images identifying this item.
