Things evolve over time, responding to their environments. Not just living things on Earth, but non-living chemicals in the interstellar medium and in protoplanetary disks. The processes are slowly being unraveled, and like a giant test tube full of Harold Urey's "goop", more exotic molecular species evolve. Some of them may give characteristic spectral signatures that we will be able to see . SEE: http://arxiv.org/PS_cache/arxiv/pdf/1107/1107.4513v1.pdf
