There is this realy, really weird website that has a countdown to October 28th 2011 as well as weid puzzles and some sort of message it is trying to tell us:

http://oct282011.com/

And here is a wiki paage that has all the codes, the images, the texts, videos ect. as wel as some background on the website.

I'm scared of whats going to happen on this date. Is the website saying we are going to have a cosmic shift? New World Order? WWIII? And what is more spooky, is that some people claim that this date is the true end to the Mayan calender, and that a massivve change is going to happen.

Hi flanagan, welcome to BAUT.

Short answer - NO.

I wasn't particularly familiar with October 28th 2011, or any of this particular flavor of nonsense, but I actually studied the Mayans in college (and wrote a term paper on Mayan astronomy), and though they were excellent record keepers and naked-eye astronomy observers, there is nothing magical about the Mayans or their knowledge. All the various claims that the Mayans some how predicted the end of the world (usually in December 2012) have no basis in fact. There is some evidence that the Mayan calendar, if it can be matched to our own, does turn over on a big interval in December 2012 (thought that is not 100% established), but there is no more significance to that then there was for our calendar on December 31, 1999 (and last I checked, the world didn't end then either).

If you search around BAUT, you'll find lots of past discussions about the Mayans.

Looks like some sort of "viral" (they hope) movie promo or something. I have no patience with those things so that's all I can say really... :)

Oh no, its not viral marketing- it makes that clear http://oct282011.com/about/

I'm telling people they have to look at the links in the wiki page, I mean one of the codes that can be used on the "Safe" is a picture of a front cover of a book (http://oct282011.com/thesafe/1980.html) that claims that John Lennon was killed by a CIA manchurian assasin. But another code from the safe gives off something like this: http://oct282011.com/free.html
and

Ok, this is scary and weird. There is going to be a document released next year that will show newly released documents from the mexican goverment that show E.T contact with the Mayans:

What do you think.

One thread (of yours) on this stuff is enough, thanks flanagan. I've moved your post from Q&A to here.

(And what do I think? Fanciful rubbish. Small evidence imagined up into great significance by people who want to believe.

Neither scary, nor weird.)

If there were that much real evidence, I surely don't think it would be The Guardian releasing that news. Don't hold your breath. I bet Vonn Dainken will be the gurst host. according to him my Mom was an ET.

No, no. This film will be released next year and will have the Mexican goverment reveal never before seen evidence of the mayan calender and its ability to tell the future.

Remember, the Mexican goverment is working with these directors and the disclosed artifacts and evidence they will give us will blow us away. Are you feeling nervous now about 2012, or excited that we may have proof of alien visitors.

Since I was a kid, I've seen literally dozens of stories that somebody or other was going to present serious evidence of ET visitation real soon now. You'll see, just wait, there will be irrefutable proof in 1970, '71, '72, '73, and on and on. 2000 and 2001 were especially popular years.

I'll believe it if and when there actually is good evidence, not some claim for future revelations. I don't see anything weird or scary about the claims, just same old, same old.

From that link:

So far, the minister of tourism for the Mexican state of Campeche, Luis Augusto García Rosado, appears to be the highest-ranking government official to go on record confirming the discovery of extraterrestrial life, but he's not holding back.

In a statement, Rosado spoke of contact "between the Mayans and extraterrestrials, supported by translations of certain codices, which the government has kept secure in underground vaults for some time". In a telephone conversation with the Wrap, he also spoke of "landing pads in the jungle that are 3,000 years old".
It sounds to me mostly like a state tourism minister (not exactly what I'd call a high government official) trying to drum up tourism.

No. I'm feeling that this doesn't show any evidence of being anything to take seriously.

What was it...that last "doomsday" was 2 days before our wedding anniversary, now this "doomsday" is 4 days before my birthday.

Why won't the doomsday leave me alone? I've never done anything to it.

It gets rather yawn-worthy after the second.

Right. And we should believe that because ...?

And if that doesn't prove it is all nonsense, I don't know what will. Perhaps when they change the "about" page to "Ha. Fooled you" or "In cinmeas near you now"

This sentence has a period at the end of it. Did the world end? The Mayan calendar had a cycle to it that has an ending and all the "apocalyptic" hype was added by attention seeking writers and media producers in the last 40 years. A cycle that ends, period.

We had a Rapture party in May when the aforementioned Harold Camping predicted true believers in Christ are going to be whisked to Heaven and the rest of us left to suffer Tribulation. Must say I didn't notice a single person vanishing mysteriously that evening but then again, I was somewhat intoxicated especially towards the end of the day... I'm also not very impressed by this on-going time of Tribulation, frankly. I want my locusts and boils!

I'm thinking maybe the world will end on October 21 for Xtians and atheists and then on October 28 for all the rest...

Checking out the calendar, Oct 28th is the day after my town will hold it's 'Trick or Treat' night, which is a night I somewhat dread as Tara always works Thursday nights. That leaves me, alone, to have to answer the door for children. I don't particularly like children that aren't family members. And I don't like interacting with strangers. So it's a double whammy of "Uuuugh, do I have to?"

So the 28th marks a major event; the start of the weekend where I can drink away all my anxiety from the night prior!

(over dramatized my aversion for 'beggars night' in order to make the 28th have any significance what-so-ever.)

Oh no, its not viral marketing- it makes that clear

From the link you provided that "makes that clear:"

About us --

Well, for starters, we're not from a government, nor is this a social experiment or a game. It is in fact a very important part of what IS right now.. There are no warnings, this isn't a future teller gimmick, I know, as you know, as they know, as he knows.

So they are telling you they are what? Serious? Truthful? The real word on the subject? That makes it clear to you?

So you still believe it's not viral marketing?

I am respectfully advising that you need to learn some critical thinking skills. Someone writing something on the internet does not automatically give it credibility.

I had a very good friend (or I thought he was) of 35 years who became furious with me when I made fun of Harold Camping's predictions; he said I was "disrespecting" his beliefs. When the predictions failed, my friend stopped speaking to me entirely. I don't understand what motivates these people to latch on to this stuff so tightly---but they do.

Just because it says it's "not a game" doesn't mean it isn't. Viral marketing campaigns try to seem as realistic as possible.

I don't think its spouting an end of the world scenario most of the time, you have to look at the links on the wiki page to know a little on whats going on:

http://oct282011.com/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page

Also the site owner created this website that allows people to share their experiance of the manuals, but it also talks about the emails that someone posted on ABTs which is what the above post is talking about:

What's going on, is an elaborate game. The question so far is if you or flanagan (cough) are playing the game or being fooled by it. While it's under discussion by the mods, thread closed.
