Ok I know many would ignore anything that was posted on AboveTopSecret, but this thread came up that spooked me a little:

http://www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/thread738939/pg1

and it concerns the following topic: http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2011/08/110810-new-meteor-shower-perseids-eta-draconids-space-science/

Does this really show a potential danger object heading for earth, how sacared should we be?

Not very. The object is apparently long period so the already tiny odds of it hitting are reduced again by it almost never being in our neighbourhood.

Oh - and the debris trail means it has been past. It does not precede the comet, it is left behind by it.

Edit: This is from the NG article. I am not reading anything from ATS - the signal to noise level tends to zero there in my opinion.

It can precede it too. It spreads out along the comet's orbit, both forward and backwards.
