Sorry if ToSeek already posted this topic, but Lake Vostok looks like a very interesting Earth analogue to Europa:

It will be interesting to see if Earth's own alien microbes have evolved there, shut off from outside influences. The New York Times also ran a story on this last week.

Personally I think the only thing Lake Vostok will teach us about Europa is how to drill through miles of ice to get samples. Microbes were in abundance on Earth long before Antarctica froze. Any microbes in the lake could be very different from other microbes on Earth but I don't think they will provide insight into life on Europa - other than that microbes can survive under miles of ice.

I'm hoping that one day they find fish in Lake Vostok, that would be interesting to see.

I saw a program about this a few years back. I as realy getting into it until they said. something like we have to stop to avoid contamination of the enviroment. I was so disapointed. :(

I could see their point but I wanted to see some fish too....

Fish? Heck, I wanted to see Doug McClure battle some flying latex reptiles.
