ok last night i was sitting in my kitchen looking out of the window, when i noticed a red light in the sky, it was very low, but also very bright, like a streetlight and it moved across the sky from west to south, it was almost triangular in shape, the light seemed to go bright and then dim and then bright again as it moved across the sky, now i live near an airport and had been seeing planes coming into land for the past hour, so i knew it wasnt a plane, also it was in the wrong direction, and too far out from the direction of the airport, i watched it till it went behind a tree, i waited to see if it came back but it didnt, i managed to see it behind the tree minutes later before disapearing, anyone know what it could be?

How did you know it wasn't a plane, just not one that was landing?

You said yourself that the ones you were comparing it with were in a different part of the sky, so this was seen from a different angle and distance.

Hard to say. Being near the airport, I would still say it could have been a plane. Different aircraft have different arrangements of lights, and not all aircraft flying near airports are in a landing pattern. A through flight just uses the airport's beacons as guides, so they can go any number of directions. Given the right angle you may have only been able to make out the left side lights (the red), so it seemed different than the rest.

Could have been something else...but that's my best guess.

like i said it was much brighter than the aircraft lights, and bigger too, ive seen loads of planes taking off and landing, so i feel quite positive to rule out that it was a plane.

I live in a maissonette, and looking out my kitchen window i can see trees over the rooftops, there is a motorway behind the trees, which i can see, orange streetlights lining the motorway.

now this light was red, it seemed to be from my view, above the motorway, the light dimmed then got brighter as it moved from west to south,

We live next to an airport. Helicopters can be devilishly difficult to identify at night, particularly if flying low.

Best thing I ever saw at night? Uncle Joe Biden's home is near here, so Air Force Two is in and out often. I'm walking the dog, and Two comes over headed in for a landing. Very pretty, well illuminated by local shopping center lights. Then, about 30 seconds later, an F-15 follows. Presumably an escort, I think it was during the last terrorist alert. What a kick!

The U.S. does do some things right.

Thinking outside aircraft...was there any type of weather, like low clouds or fog. I'm thinking maybe some type of reflection from a vehicle somewhere perhaps.

Nope, clear skies.
