I recently discovered this site (http://www.lpl.arizona.edu/impacteffects/) while surfing, it allows you to enter figures for an impacting meteor and then determine just what damage it would do at different distances.

I tried this setting using the Chixalub impactor as an test. Assuming it hit 3000km away my current location would get off with a mild shaking, at least until the blast wave arrived.

The air blast will arrive at approximately 9090 seconds.
Peak Overpressure: 36800 Pa = 0.368 bars = 5.22 psi
Max wind velocity: 75.6 m/s = 169 mph
Sound Intensity: 91 dB (May cause ear pain)
Damage Description:

Wood frame buildings will almost completely collapse.

Glass windows will shatter.

Up to 90 percent of trees blown down; remainder stripped of branches and leaves.:o

Try it out and see what would happen to your hometown.
