View Full Version : Is this the right place to look for Dark Matter?

From today's interesting paper's thread:

http://arxiv.org/pdf/1210.3013v1.pdf Tentative observation of a gamma-ray line at the Fermi-LAT

Fermi-LAT has found a likely 130 GeV broad line near the galactic center. The signal is strong enough; but when the scope is positioned along the limb of the earth; where cosmic rays meet their fate; there is a disturbingly similar signal.

The assumption/prediction is that a 130 GeV peak is consistent with WIMP particle annihilation; but personally, I would be hard pressed to point a scope at the galactic core and say 'this line is the smoking gun we have been looking for.'
