Hi,

I found these pictures on another forum I visit, which I find fascinating. Used with kind permission of André van der Hoeven (www.astro-photo.nl)

Based on observations made with the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope, and obtained from the Hubble Legacy Archive, which is a collaboration between the Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI/NASA), the Space Telescope European Coordinating Facility (ST-ECF/ESA) and the Canadian Astronomy Data Centre (CADC/NRC/CSA).

Anyone got any information on this star?

I have no further information, but thanks for posting this. That's a very cool set of images. The proper motion of Barnard's Star is about 50 times as fast as the one you've identified, so this proper motion is not outrageously fast, but seeing against the Ring Nebula is visually very compelling.

BTW tusenfem is right about linking. There are still people with slowish connections, and using links is polite.

The star appears in the 2MASS catalogs as source 18533272+3301234 , so you can look up all the information on it in the 2MASS catalog:

The star appears clearly in optical images taken with the 200-inch telescope many years ago; you can see reproductions in Burnham's Celestial Handbook, among other places. I'd guess that with some persistence and a good library, you might be able to measure positions from old optical images going back 100 years or so.
