There's obviously a lot of money to be made out of producing and screening TV shows for the easily fooled, the dumb and the barking mad.

That can be the only reason for Conspiracy Theory: Did We Land On The Moon? (TV3, 7.30pm Wednesday), which invented an entire new TV genre - unreality TV.

The show appeared to be beamed in direct from Fantasyland and presented "proof" that the 1969 moon landing was an elaborate hoax executed by Nasa to beat the Soviet space program. Yeah, right.

It posed many questions.

Why are there no stars in the sky in the official photos? Why does the American flag wave in the moon's windless atmosphere? Why is there no blast crater under the lunar lander? Why were there no men in white coats seen leading these deranged conspiracy-laden imbeciles away?

Obviously it is profitable to make this kind of boring garbage.

So I'm about to make a doco that conclusively proves Captain Cook never landed in New Zealand.

It was all an elaborate hoax to beat the French.

If you look closely at the drawings of Joseph Banks you'll see his background scenes closely resemble the Isle of Wight - reinforcing my theory Cook actually spent years sailing around the English Channel."

Thanks for the amusing quote. Wow, a reviewer with the guts to really tell it like it is.

BTW, this is a perfect example of what I was talking about in my suggestion post of a few days ago. If you can't get a link to work properly, try framing it like this:

http://stupidURLthatwontwork.com

See my post about it here: http://www.badastronomy.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?topic=1118&forum=6&6

And here's your link in working order:

supports what I've egoistically called 'Oberg's Rule of TV Ads', which is that advertisers just LOVE shows that attract the gullible and weak-minded who will believe A-NY-THING they see on the screen. It should be NO mystery why there are LOTS of shows like this, the only mystery is why there aren't MORE.

I'm just wondering where this fox show will turn up next. The U.S. then England, now New Zealand. It seems to be slowly circling the planet.

It was in Australia a couple of months ago, though I missed it. It definitely seems to have been moving from west to east...

It also ran in a German tv channel already two times, but in an "annotated" form. Two or three times they stopped the show and then German astronaut Ulrich Walter debunked some of the claims.
I'd say that's the right way to do it, if, for some reason, you want to air that piece of <beep>.

JimO, I had thought about this myself, but considered to paranoid/ridiculous. Now that I see someone else say/write it, I see that it just might be possible.

Why aren't there more? Good question. The only answer I can give is that the advertisers/producers realize that BB like this exist and that confused people who want to learn the truth will seek them out.
