Interesting article about "dirty" bombs and radioactive decay http://www.msnbc.com/news/764658.asp

I don't think I would live in that area until a couple of half lives went by, like 4 or 5. After 30 years half the stuff is still radioactive.

Ah, they caught on. It now reads:

"The length of time an area would be contaminated would depend on the type of isotope used and the success in cleaning it up, but could easily stretch into many decades."
