Time to bring in the earth safety tax and a specialised department for destroying, obliterating, annihilating asteroids that threaten earth and the moon. We need the moon. :). Ended with a funny comment, but, I am serious.

On another note, it might be an idea to just gravity tow asteroids, so that gradually orbits are altered thus preventing catastrophe. It's probably a much less expensive and more intelligent way to do things. Much more favourable.
