View Full Version : Moon and Jupiter encounter on April 14, 2013

Finally, a warm night. I had started worrying that the cold spell would never end. But it did,and the skies were clear on Sunday night, though seeing was not all that good. Anyway, I tried to catch Jupiter and the waxing moon, which were separated by around 2 degrees, too much for even my refractor with its 70 mm aperture and 420 mm focal length. So I had to take a picture of the scene with a 250 mm telephoto lens, then attach the DSLR body to the telescope and take individual shots of the Moon and Jupiter, which I then patched into one of the wide-FOV pictures I had taken with telephoto lens.

Here is the result:

Lens: Canon 55-250 telephoto lens and 70/420 ED Apo refractor telescope
Camera: Canon EOS 1000d unmodified
Location: Darmstadt, Germany
Date and time: Sunday, April 14, 2013, ca. 22:00 Central European Daylight Saving Time
