Yep, tomorrow is the big day. 2PM on Thursday I start the last major hurdle to my doctorate. I hope to be done before 6, but we should be done before that. My committee gets to grill me on all things about the north pole of Mars. I think they're happy with my work. Otherwise they wouldn't let me do the defense tomorrow. Wish me luck.

Good luck!

I remember mine and that I was quite nervous although very well prepared. It went much more smoothly than I imagined.
And boy, did we party afterwards!

Good luck.

Mine was long enough ago that as I was putting the slide carrousel in the projector I dropped it on the floor and all 40 or 50 something slides fell out. I spent a few frantic minutes picking them up, and making sure they were in the right order and orientation.

What not to do: There was kind of an "urban legend" (meaning veracity uncertain) going around in my class about a previous student in the program going through her qualifying exams. She replied to a question, "I don't know the answer to that question, but I know where to find it when I need it." At which point the examiner got irritated and said, "Well, you need it right now!"

Wishing for stellar results seems inappropriate, so... here's for planetary results!

Someone told me that if I get nervous to imagine Mars naked. I'm not sure if looking up his kilt will help or not, but here goes

I've never been through the process and never will be, but maybe keep this in mind: The people you'll be addressing also once stood where you'll be standing. Imagine how nervous they were. ;)

Good luck.

Defending your research is easy, especially since you know it. Stay calm even if they ask you something strange. like one that asked if the fluorocarbons I was making could make tennis balls last longer.

Wow, missed this. Hopefully you're not reading CQ in preparation. See you on the other side, Doctor Crosscountry.

Throw them for a loop; say you'd rather discuss the north pole of Saturn - which is currently far more interesting. :)

Based on the crickets I'd guess there was celebration afterwards.

OK, so it's the day after the big day. I'm just going to assume it went well unless I hear otherwise. Congrats!

On CQ, neither "Dr. Cross" or "Dr Cross" are usernames, if that is what you are asking.
