Just wondering if there have been any updates on the "Vulcanoids" (the ring of debris that's supposed to exist in a gravitationally stable region within Mercury's orbit). Last I heard, scientists were searching the sky from high-altitude aircraft, but as yet no one has found anything.

Just did a little quick research. Seems that the latest is reference to Vulcanoid research is a Black Brant rocket mission from White Sands in January 2004. See the following web articles:

Can't find anything more recent, including a detailed report on the findings from the Black Brant mission.

BTW: Thanks for your question. I had never really known of the Vulcanoids before and I spent about the last 45 minutes learning about something new.

Before this the only "Vulcanoids" I knew about were the Mintakans (http://www.startrek.com/startrek/view/series/TNG/episode/68410.html).
