I suppose the Brits will say "Happy" and Americans will say "Merry"...you know, ala Christmas?

Merry Birthday?

I suppose the Brits will say "Happy" and Americans will say "Merry"...you know, ala Christmas?I hate that word 'Brits'. Anyway, I'm surprised that comment was made, so I checked in the COCA and BNC and was surprised to find that Merry Christmas had 65 English, 1076 American hits, but Happy Christmas had 78 English and only 42 American hits. I checked because I would always say Merry, not Happy, if I were forced to say anything at all.

This gives no clue for aphelion.
