View Full Version : Meteor Shower?

I thought that we were between "showers" with the Geminids queuing up for later this month.

It is rare for me in Calgary to see any meteors, even at the height of one of the showers, but this morning on my way to the bus (at 6:30 am local) I saw three.

They were all generally coming from a spot higher in the sky (NW) of Jupiter by about a hands width.

All very fast, all bright enough to be seen above the city lights, but not dazzlingly so.

Is there a shower or is this a coincidence.

Here is Kronk's meteor page for November (http://comets.amsmeteors.org/meteors/november_radiants.html). The showers have peaks, but sometimes have durations of months.

If the ones you saw were headed down, towards Jupiter, their radiant might have been Monoceros--Kronk's page shows that the Alpha Monocerotids have minor activity from Nov. 13 to Dec. 2. There are some other possible candidates on the December page (http://comets.amsmeteors.org/meteors/december_radiants.html).
