I'll just ask...I cant wrap my head around the view of the "blue robin's egg".

Is it a snapshot of a section of space? Because I cant see how it would be an outside view, looking in, which I interpret it as.

BTW, it is WMAP (which is an acronym for Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe)

The blue egg you refer to is a projection of the entire sky, so if you follow a line to the edge, that line will continue coming in from somewhere else on the edge.
