View Full Version : helicopter buffs?

Just saw a helicopter fly overhead twice, probably out of Hamilton ON.

Very deep thump, like a Bell Huey makes. This was ... I dunno how to categorize them. This was in the same class the Ornge choppers around here, but it wasn't one of them.

Like an AW139 but not.

It has retractable landing gear, and a V-shaped tail - one vertical fin, one off to starboard about 45 degrees from vertical. I did not see a tail rotor, but I can;t be positive.

Belly was protruding laterally, as if for landing gear.

I just scanned about a thousand helicopter pics, and found not a single one with a \| tail. Strange.

Wait. A black van just pulled into my driveway. There's someone at my front door. BRB.

I'm reasonably sure I've seen that particular tail design. So far I've found a MD 500 model (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MD_Helicopters_MD_500). Other models had no tail rotor. The Super Stallion has a somewhat odd tail design but not quite what you described.

Hmm... dog suddenly stopped barking. Someone at the door!
