Skywatchers along the U.S. East Coast have a chance of getting a unique light show from Monday evening’s launch of an Antares rocket from Virginia’s Eastern Shore.

The 14-story rocket is set for liftoff at 6:45 p.m. EDT (2245 GMT) from launch pad 0A at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport, a launch complex owned by the state of Virginia at NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility.

The rocket will arc southeast from the Eastern Shore, soaring to an orbit nearly 200 miles above Earth lifting nearly 5,000 pounds of cargo in pursuit of the International Space Station.

There's a viewing map at the link. Think the weather should be OK.

Here's the status, as of about 20 minutes ago

All systems with the Antares rocket, the Cygnus spacecraft, the Wallops range, and weather are currently green.

Here just east of Richmond the weather couldn't be better for a fall evening as there is not a single cloud in the sky, same all day and it's clear as a bell for viewing due east from here. Hope all goes a-ok, it'll be a Big one fer sure.

Nertz! Scrubbed for today. With only 12 mins to go someone sailed a boat into the safety zone. Looks like it could go as early as 6:19 tomorrow.

The boat was a bummer, but what happened when they launched, was even bummerer.
