A nice introductory lecture here, which culminates in the simple mind boggling fact that the things we have a reasonable understanding of make up less than 1% of the universe as a whole the rest is dark. However I also hasten to note that this is all about doing properly conducted physics to answer the questions, this is not posted as an invitation to gap theory etc, simply that there is plenty of scope for young aspiring physicists to make their own break throughs?
