For decades, the human race has been deploying satellites into orbit. And in all that time, the method has remained the same – a satellite is placed aboard a booster rocket which is then launched from a limited number of fixed ground facilities with limited slots available. This process not only requires a month or […]

The title is a rather subjective statement.

A better use for a fighter plane is to huck crap into orbit?

Then the author has no clue as to the purpose of fighter planes.

B-52's and L-1011 can launch satellites. It isn't exactly a new concept. Neat perhaps, but not new or necessarily better.

wouldn't a purpose built crap-hucker aircraft without armour, firecontrol, ecm and ecccm equipment be a MUCH better choice?

Just saying.

Oh, I worked on avionics and fire control systems on F-14 Tomcats. :)

The artist's impression in the article showed an F-15E (-ish) which wouldn't be ideal, either IME. Now, a repurposed F-15 might do the trick. Proven airframe, lower production cost, spares in the system...

Edit: Oh...and USAF avionic sensors here...A-7D, F-4D/E.

I see you've even got the project code name worked out :)

It should put the fighters the shame
