In the DC area, we're supposed to get 6-9 inches. In Boston, they're supposed to get 20-30, along with high winds to blow it all around. (You don't see the weather service issue a "Blizzard Warning" very often, but they've got one!)

No such luck. I was able to make it to work last night and home this morning driving 20 miles an hour. I kicked in the 4WD all the way. The snow was so deep in the parking lot at work, that I really had fun pulling out of a parked position. :D

I then made it to class way before it started only to see everyone else arrive 15 minutes to 1 hour late.

Unfortunately, The Summit will not be operating until we receive more snow. While we've tried all our tricks to keep things going, Mother Nature has bigger tricks at her disposal, and so she wins this round. My own eyes do a good job of keeping an eye on the storm.

Winds have let up a bit here. Snow's still falling. I think the sidewalks have been plowed 5 times in the past 12 hours. It's a lot of fun to just go out there and jog down the abandoned streets.

SarahMc

14" on the ground and still falling, however it's not as heavy as it was overnight. This snow is really light and dry (read "cold"), and now that the winds are picking up, there'll be a lot of drifting and blowing - and I have to drive over 100 miles this afternoon.

Needless to say, it's going to take a lot longer than it usually does.

We didn't get hit as hard as those to the south along the coast, and in the Catskills and Berkshires. Some of those locations are already reporting 20" and up. Current temp here is 6F (-14C) and expected to fall during the day. With the upcoming winds, the wind chill will be around -20 or lower this afternoon.

But hey, it's the NorthEast - it's not like we've never seen this before. :D

My husband went to Donelan's yesterday at 4 to pick up some milk and said there were lines of people stocking up...

So far we have about a foot and a half, some of that is part of the wind-blown drift. At 1 a.m. we had just under a foot that had fallen, then the winds picked up. Just now I'm looking out the window and it's white-out conditions with stuff blowing sideways.

Tuned in to the Weather Channel and it looks like it'll be this way through the day. As long as I can get out to go to Boston tomorrow for my physical, I'm content to stay in today. But tomorrow we'll be shovelin'....

I wonder how this storm will stack up against the Blizzard of '78, the one where Ella Grasso shut down the state of CT for three days.

It was fun skiing around town on roads that were usually packed with cars and trucks.

That was the storm that a few days later caused the collapse of the Hartford Civic Center's roof, a collapse almost as catastrophic as that of the Huskies against Pittsburgh last night.

I guess most of the Cape is without power. The hurricane flags are flying here, indicating winds in excess of 50 miles per hour. In central Ohio they were predicting a bad winter storm over the weekend. I think we got about 2-3 inches with some blowing problems overnight Saturday. We were out all night keeping the roads clear but it was mainly just a few drifting areas.

Then find out that they closed Columbus Public Schools anyway because it was too cold. Waaa. I think it was 5 when I got up. People around here don't have any idea what real winter weather is like. And I'm the only one who wants it to snow and be cold.

Seriously, I hope no one was injured where you guys are in NE but I am envious for all the snow you got. And I would be happy to plow or shovel for you if I was closer. I love to shovel. (Hey, there's worse sicknesses, right?)

One day here with me in South Plymouth and I'd cure you of that! We got 38 inches with that last one and 6 more are predicted for tomorrow. It's really deep in snow and cold here as well (low around 0 and high around 25). I just don't know where we're going to stack any more of it! :o

In the 50s and 60s here. :) 8)
Our second winter gets here March into May, though.

Yup, warm and sunny here in Colorado too. The weather has been beautiful for the last several weeks. We even had our windows open for a couple of days. It's only supposed to get to 57 F today. =D>

THAT's WHAT I miss about Colorado!

I'm astonished at the stories about the folks poisoned by CO when their house vents were buried in snow. very sad.
