AOL kills its USENET access (http://www.betanews.com/article/AOL_Pulls_Plug_on_Newsgroup_Service/1106664611)

For those who do not know, USENET was a discussion system that was created in 1980 by ARPANET rejects. It thrived under a simple and interesting existence (TINC) until September 1993, at which time America OnLine first offered USENET access. Now, prior to this there would be a small influx of newbies who happened were college freshmen and hadn't fully taken the time to equate themselves with the rules of nettique, this phenomenon was short-lived. However, in september 1993, the constant massive influx of newbies never did subcede, causing many people to dub it, "The september that never ended".
