Sherri S. Tepper died October 22, 2016, in Santa Fe. She was an sf/f author of particularly feminist bent and good skill -- one critic (paraphrasing) said her writing is preachy but so good you'll still want to read it. Her major output started in the early 1980s, when she was in her 50s.

Her obituary is here (http://www.sfwa.org/2016/10/memoriam-sheri-s-tepper/).

Sad news. I have only just finished rereading her "Tales of Mavin Manyshaped" series and her latest, "Fish Tales". She will be missed.

Oh; that's too bad - one of my all-time favourite books was "The Lands of the True Game"; a trilogy based around the son of the above-mentioned Mavin. It was quite a lovely piece of work; a genuinely unique world where people with psychic powers become 'pieces' in a vast global game of chess. I also had Grass in my collection; an excellent but (IMO) far less enjoyable read than the 'Lands'. A great writer with a unique vision - she'll be missed.
