What are your thoughts on Wolfram? I understand he's a bit of a controversial figure. I bring him up because of his involvement with the film Arrival.

I never heard of him. Could you tell us something about him?

Steven Wolfram gave the world a book entitled A New Kind of Science (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_New_Kind_of_Science) -- which was nothing of the sort.

Wolfram's speculations of a direction towards a fundamental theory of physics have been criticized as vague and obsolete.

And so forth.

His ideas make string theory look good.

More seriously, in my opinion, he is a good scientist who has gotten way off in the wrong direction.

He's a pretty smart guy. Look at his wiki entry. He dove deep into complex systems and apparently thought cellular automata held an important key, which they may.
