Long, long ago in a sub-galaxy not far away, I wrote fantasy and science-fiction. So I tend to look for neato SF ideas lurking in science papers. This thread is for suggesting great ideas from REAL SCIENCE in arXiv.org and other sources, for use in movies, novels, TV series, whatever you think would work.

Starting off:

Yates, et al. "ATMOSPHERIC HABITABLE ZONES IN COOL Y DWARF ATMOSPHERES".

You are not going to get much weirder than a civilization of life forms floating in a cool star's upper atmosphere. And I thought Mesklin was strange.

Mesklin was strange, but Barlennan is still officially the coolest centipede in the universe!

Well; I don't like using outside sources for ideas, most of my stories center around an established setting. However, I could have fun with this one:

"A Robotic Prosthesis for an Amputee Drummer "
Hmm....sounds like an interesting place for the Robot Apocalypse to begin. ;)
