View Full Version : Is Dune a Christmas story?

There can be no doubt when one peels back the layers on Dune. Paul rides on the back of a sandworm to bring change for all the good girls and boys but will not suffer the naughty actions of the Emperor, the Guild and the evil House Harkonnen. The spiced eggnog Paul consumes brings on the Christmas spirit that he wishes to share with the rest of the known universe. And though a stillsuit is not as flashy as Santa's attire it reflects the sand environment that Santa's furs do in the snow. The "water of life" kills those unprepared for it's poisonous effects and so does the Christmas fruitcake.

Actually Dune's a thinly veiled parable about the oil crisis and the Middle East, at the time it was written.

"Fedaykin" wasn't a huge red flag, now was it?

A religion jihad gone wild and no longer in control by who started it is a very scary story.

A religion jihad gone wild and no longer in control by who started it is a very scary story.

In the original book Paul tried to gain control of the jihad. They left this out of the theatrical versions.

Didn't read more than a couple of chapters of the second one.
