The two galaxies are about 40 light years apart.

Wow! That's almost 10 times the distance to the nearest star!

Wow! That's almost 10 times the distance to the nearest star!You're right, this is a crazy value. Looking at the actual paper, the separation appears to be on the order of 10 h-1 Mpc, which is more like 40 million light years (depending on the exact value of h). So I'm assuming they just missed that little "million" part. What's six orders of magnitude between friends?
