"Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C" was certainly no masterpiece but I remember coming home from primary school to watch it, and him, and enjoying it thoroughly. And like many other people I was amazed the first time I heard him sing. Of course, there were his initial appearances on the Andy Griffith Show - which I don't really have many memories of from its initial run.

I'm glad he was able to marry his longtime partner before the end.

I remember him from both the Andy Griffith show and Gomer Pyle, sad to see another of my childhood stars go. RIP Jim.

I remember many, many years ago, seeing jim Nabors on a tv variety show singing as Pagliacci.

My mother seemed unusually affected by this. She later explained that this must have been very personal for the man, as he was in fact a thoughtful man who has to play the fool.

(Indeed Nabors had also done some very silly Gomer-schtick on the show.) Something that stayed with me every time I watched him.
