The long-period Comet C/2017 T1 (Heinze) will pass 0.2223 AU from Earth on 2018 JAN 04. Itís currently at magnitude +11.7, with maximum brilliance of about +8.5 expected around FEB 17. Perihelion will come on FEB 21 at 0.5807 AU from Sun.

Iíve created two preview graphics and an ephemeris which can be viewed on my Comets webpage: www.CurtRenz.com/comets.html

Photos and descriptions of the comet would be welcome additions to this thread.

I've updated my Comet Heinze graphics and ephemeris to its latest IAU orbital elements and JPL brightness algorithm. There is now concern that it may disintegrate near the time of its 2018 FEB 21 perihelion at 0.5806 AU. If it is still in one piece on FEB 17, greatest brilliance is now expected at magnitude +8.8. Its current magnitude is estimated to be +9.4.
