Asteroid #1 Ceres is easily the largest asteroid, and was the first one discovered in 1801. It also qualifies as a dwarf planet.

Ceres is currently at magnitude +7.0 and will peak at +6.9 around the time of its upcoming opposition from the Sun on 2018 JAN 31 with a declination of N 30.

My Ceres ephemeris and other asteroid information can be found on my Asteroids webpage at www.CurtRenz.com/asteroids.html

Photos and descriptions of Ceres would be welcome additions to this thread.

It will be somewhat close (~ 13 deg.) to the full Moon, but, for those out west, the total lunar eclipse should make it an attraction. It will have higher altitude than the Moon as well.
