East Asia VLBI Network (EAVN) will come into existence very soon.

A very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) network in the East Asia region, composed of 21 radio telescopes from China, Japan and South Korea, will be able to carry out scientific projects very soon, reports Chinese news outlet China News.

When fully operational, the East Asia VLBI Network (EAVN) will be able to provide a resolution of 0.5 milliarcseconds at 22 GHz and is expected to cover a wide range of research areas, such as maser studies, jets sources, space exploration and tracking, astronomy and geodesy.

“Compared with some existing VLBI networks, the EAVN has been in a state of gradual, steady growth over the past few years. It not only integrates the resources and expertise in East Asia, but also fosters stronger regional collaboration in order to maximise science and technology developmental gains,” said An Tao, a researcher at the Shanghai Astronomical Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
